I wish I’d taken a photograph of this. But if you happen to travel through Kadawatha Road to avoid main road traffic to & from work like I do you may have seen what I’m going to blog about today.
If you see a series of black flags along the street and think its probably a funeral – think again. Its probably the death of human decency but certainly not a physical one. Look to the side and you’ll see posters on every single wall of every house, shop and other establishments. Slap bang in the middle of the road, you’ll a large, loud ORANGE banner (gee, I wonder why that is) saying something to the effect of “We don’t want a Mosque tainting our neighbourhood”.
I’m not a Muslim and I can’t even imagine how the muslims in the neighbourhood must be feeling. There’s at least one Muslim establishment on that road we all know about – Galle Caterers.
I could have understood if this was a neighbourhood that wants to live a quiet, peaceful life and any religious establishment would mean noise and traffic. But this road also houses a temple and kovil. So that argument went out the window. There’s also a lot of noise in the area when the drunken men come home and then get chased up and down the road by their wives brandishing kitchen knives. Trust me – I’ve seen it more than once.
This is not going to have a long preachy ending. Just wanted you all to hear the facts and to tell you that I’m enraged.
Yet another example of why this country is in the state it is – intolerance of others!
This is what we call Racism.. I think Sri Lankan has love way to travel to achieve peace and harmony. Bloody politicians have exploited the innocent minds of Sinhalese people!!!
So sad 😦
http://qudaamah.blogspot.com/2008/03/reiteration-on-war-against-muslims.html
[..]My friend Aufdius and MissingSandwich relates a story about how a group of Sinhalese nationalist types in Dehiwela have put up posters and dumped garbage to offend the Muslims in the area for attempting to.[..]
I heard that they’re slapping up posters on the walls of all the Muslims who live down Kadawatha Road..
But just to verify something- Isn’t the temple and kovil down Anderson Road?
Hi Gutterflower – yes, the posters sound very nasty. I saw one this morning to the effect of we love pork.
Also, both the temple and the kovil are between Anderson Road and Kadawatha. The main entrance to both are on the Kadawatha side.
Kadawatha folks are very touchy ppl. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think it’s the only town without a Muslim Boutique/Shop. (Or atleast it WAS the only one)..
But by no means am I approving their actions.. Racism all over again!
tms- Thanks for verifying that..
And Chaar~Max.. Its the Kadawatha Road, in the Dehiwela-Kalubowila area..
Not the Kadawatha area.. 🙂
Hey Gutterflower – Just realized that there was also a temple on Anderson Road. But not the one I was talking about. There’s a separate one on Kadawatha Road. And yes, Chaar Max, it was K-road which has many Muslim homes and establishments.
I live in Kadawatha and Ill never going to belive what the author of this blog has said. I can clearly see that this person has any kind of angry with Kadawatha city. I knew that from the following words
“There’s also a lot of noise in the area when the drunken men come home and then get chased up and down the road by their wives brandishing kitchen knives. Trust me – I’ve seen it more than once.”
I cant understand how this type of things are relevant to here!
All of you must know that there is a well behave police station in kadawatha and they never allow this type of works. There are so many things to do for house wives in Kadawatha other than fighting with their husbands with knives!!
i can agree only the main point of this article. which says that showing people’s unlikeness with a banner!! but not the words he used!
According to the authors view of Kadawatha, They(people in Kadawatha) never do this type of work to show their unlikness! Definetly they drunk and destroy the half built Moque. If they can fight with their wives with knives in the road, who can belive that they are going to show their angry with a banner.
And you must know one more thing. In Sri Lanka we have very good contact with our neighbours. Everyone of our neighbours (may be Muslims, Tamils, Sinhalese) are enjoying in our happiness and they cry in our sadness. Simply you can experience it if you are in Sri Lanka. We have changing neighbours(who come for rent houses) also. Therefor we had all kind of neighbours. Still we do not have any problem !! So the incident that thwe author of this article said must have a big surrounding. Without looking that, nobody can justise it.
Finally I would like to say that Kadawatha is very peacefull city. Do not try to break that. If you want to know about the Kadawatha city and it’s enviroment ask from a beliveble person or come yourself and see…!! .
Thanks
shan
