What a well-written and heartfelt post. I agree completely, no one has been able to challenge Stigs yet. It’s so true what you say about how you associate certain pieces of music with experiences or emotions and how they can help you heal.
I can’t wait for the new album…

nice post natty:-) i’ver heard so many ppl sayin all sorts of shit about them for years…but no once in their right mind can deny the fact that Stigmata are the most hardest working band in sri lanka and the only band who has stuck to what they love through all the shit that happened…even if you dont find stigs music accessible, you need to give them credit for the simple fact that theyre still doing it…overrated? wow what an idiod it must have been hu asked em that…they deserve to be where they are…actually they deserve more…they shud be touring abroad…i would shamelessly tell anyone that stigs are the tightest band in the country…thats just the truth

I just read all these comments. I’m happy that there are people out there who can still understand and embrace the blood, the sweat and the tears the stigs give out in every show they do.

Be it musical integrity, attitude or stage show – they’ve got it all. Anyone and everyone who has been a regular, at the recent shows should be able to realize that STIGS are our metal pride. They can get on any stage, anywhere and impress any audience. The Stigs performance in India (Delhi) is a testament to this.

i relate to this article in more than one way. i’ve been thru more or less the same the author has with stiggy, until i left the country. i remember going to MKOP and other gigs to cheer them on, when people didn’t even know how to spell “stigmata” and i remember going there in three-wheelers, because i, like suresh and tenny and the rest…were too young to drive!

the killing joke was the first gig i attended on my return to sri lanka, and i was initially crestfallen at the turnout. but then, i did get a front row seat for the performance, and relished the sprained neck on the morning after!

one of the tracks i loved above all else from stiggy, was voices. without doubt, the most moving piece of rock i’ve heard ever.

12 years down the line, all i have to say is, stiggy will be stiggy. and they will put sri lanka on the map. in ways one can’t even imagine. of this, i have all conviction. and beleive you me, every one of you mofos who didn’t attend the killing joke will be there then. wanting a part of their fame and fortune.

Over the last 5-10 years the SL Rock scene took a phase shift. The industry can boast of many brilliant bands that have carved their own sound and fan base. Call it black metal, fusion metal, prog metal, Gothenburg melodic death or vegetarian progressive grindcore (that’s what my band plays) we have a band or bands to represent the genre with confidence. I went to see the killing joke knowing very well that the two bands before the Stigs are sure to give a kick ass performance- and they did. After watching the Stigs’ performance it was more than evident… that despite the scaled heights the new bands have reached with musical ability and perseverance-Stigmata still reigns supreme.

I’ve heard the stories every bitter ‘rockstar’ and his mother have had to say about them. I’ve read blog posts in local rock sites that ridicule them and I’ve laughed at them all. Suresh and co see and hear all this, have a hearty laugh and go and record a killer metal album.. And another.. And another.

I love the Stigs. love their guts, the heart and the balls to be original every time. The bitter little limp dicks who couldn’t last in the industry can bitch and whine all they want. Stigmata will march on… Pun intended!
