I know I was grumbling about a month ago that I needed to make up a list of things I wanted to do before I turned 30. I stopped stressing about it for a while and got on with other things. But that little nagging thought at the back of my mind that time was running out did wander in my direction from time to time.
As of today I have 8 months left to do whatever it is I come up with. And after a long weekend of many things, I think I have that list nailed. It’s not a lot of things. And my last post on this topic ended with me realizing that I needed to find my mojo first. And that at last has been located. Silly of me not to realize that I may have left it somewhere that I last felt alive in. I took a drive down there over the weekend, found it dancing away with the waves along the Unawatuna beach. It was promptly packed back inside my system where it’ll hopefully remain this time.
With the return of my jinthu, so to speak, things are so very much clearer. There was a deliberation about me earlier which I realize now was highly unnecessary. I was purposely searching for what I thought would be best for me in my present predicament. It never happens that way. And it was also not necessarily what was best for me, just because I imagined it would be that way. Things are going to happen far more naturally from now on.
Without any further ado, here’s my “before I’m 30” list :
1. Take a walk on the wild side
2. Don’t be answerable to anyone but myself
3. Don’t give a damn about the opinions of others who have no clue who I really am
4. Find my dream home, rent it & move in
5. Turn 30 in Una or on a beach away from Colombo!
Short & sweet innit?
Gorgeous list darling. And shouldn’t be too hard for you to pull off with all that mojo you’ve got stored up! Hope you’re starting today! Mwah!
Awesome, go do it indeed!
Like the list. Can the rest of the blogosphere tag along?
I’m kidding. :p
Oh and I think I added you on Facebook a little while ago. I say “think” because I have no idea what your last name is.
Gyppo – Thanks sweetheart. And can you believe I started on Monday?
Sigma Delta – Thanks. And yep, doing indeed
Paparé Boy – The rest of the blogosphere can tag along once they turn 29.
And you got the right person on FB and I’ve already approved you.
Try to be specific with the list.
It makes it easier to achieve. Some of the goals are too vague. The human mind can achieve things when they are specific. The process is easier that way. Vague goals are more difficult to achieve.
ex. Find my dream home, rent it & move in-
Define it. – How many rooms , which city ,
What is the time frame ?
The term rent is good. It expresses you intention clearly.
The only reason why I am picking on this is cause 12 of us who turned 30 around the same time made lists like these. 5 years later me and a friend of mine compared our lists and managed to cross out few.
The things that we managed to cross out were the ones that we specifically defined.
e.x I will complete MBA at Purdue , Infor. Sys course before I turn 35.
was achieved.
The general ones
ex/ I will have two patents and three books published
was not achieved. very sad.
1. Take a walk on the wild side
2. Don’t be answerable to anyone but myself
3. Don’t give a damn about the opinions of others who have no clue who I really am
If you do not specify , you will spend your entire life chasing these three. They will define you and limit what you can do.
This is similar to people who say “I will achieve financial independence “. Some chase this their entire life.
It is great to have super ambitions but an entirely different thing to carry out.
This is why Marconi is considered the father of the radio while Tesla, Hertz and Popov did most of the work !!!!!
30 is one of the most important milestones of a woman’s life and the goals that she sets for herself define the next 10-20 years as you are able to set your own goals at this stage, without the influence of your parents or your peers or your partner.
This luxury is a very small window of opportunity and creates a foundation for you.
Try hard not to limit yourself. You have everything to achieve and only yourself to stop you.
OK, phew THE END.
Apologies for the long ramble.
You most certainly can apply the third rule to this. But I do wonder why most bloggers struggle with it cause they do take huge effort to put their thoughts out there AND to invite comments by promoting the blogs.
Strange.
Hi Anne – thanks so much. Don’t think you were rambling at all. Rule number 3 doesn’t really refer to the blogsphere in my case but more about the people in my life. Opinions are always welcome on my blog. And the reason I couldn’t be specific here is because some of the specifications are very personal. The house is no problem, I have my budget and other details sorted out and have already started house hunting. I totally get what you’re saying and the expanded versions of these goals are very specific to me. Just that I can’t quite spell them out here.
Hey Missing Sandwich! Too short! I expected to find more! But since those are your wishes, I wish that they come true, the exact way you want.( I have no idea what I will do in next 4.4 years, so your list is actually longer than mine
It is not that hard to own than to rent, if you want to move to another or better house, you can rent or sell it! I know!
